Raising Awareness and Funds to Support Research and Programs at the Kellogg Eye Center

MHBB 2026 – March 19 & 20, 2026

History of March Hoops to BEAT Blindness

For many years, Myron gathered with close friends to watch the first round of the NCAA tournament. He always said it was “the greatest two days of sports of the year!” One year between games, while reminiscing about past tournaments and reflecting on how long the friends had been doing this, Myron hatched the idea this could be something used to raise money for a worthwhile cause. Thus, the idea for the original March Hoops to BEAT Blindness was born!

2026 will be the 20th March Hoops to BEAT Blindness. Over the years, hundreds of people and many organizations have contributed to the cause, and thanks to all their great generosity, assistance, and participation, over $141,000 has been raised so far to support research into the prevention and treatment of blinding conditions!!

Media coverage has included on air interviews on WTKA 1050 AM, WKQL 107.1 FMWLBY 1290 AMWWJ 950 AM, and WAAM 1600 AM. Articles have been written in AnnArbor.com, the Ann Arbor News, The University Record, Michigan Today, and the Michigan Daily. Also TV coverage on WDIV Channel 4 Detroit NBC.

The first event was held at Damon’s Grill in Ann Arbor in 2007, and we had a great time there for the first 6 years. The original name of the event was March Madness Against Blindness. Since the inaugural event, the name changed but the purpose and the fun remains! When Damon’s closed in 2013, MHBB moved to Pizza House on Church Street in Ann Arbor.

This year’s event promises to be even bigger and better! Be sure to donate on-line and join us at Pizza House in Ann Arbor for March Hoops to BEAT Blindness!!
